It's better than the previews make it look. Image shows from L to R: Kent (Dylan Edwards), Paul 'Morpheus' Durkin (Danny Kirrane). And if this is your first time hearing about it, check it out. If you skipped over this show because of the gimmick or the subject, I suggest giving it another shot. Morpheus, a geeky conspiracy theorist runs a mystical souvenir shop with his unambitious sister. A bit gimmicky, but it was in Spaced as well, and here it still works more often than it doesn't. Four mates waste their twenties in a West Country village. Smash cuts, ironic music cues, video game sound effects and cutaways, neat camera work and shot compositions, all these things that add extra layers of humour that you don't see too often, even in single-camera sitcoms. But what really does set it apart is the directing. The leads are all good enough, and the jokes come thick and fast. Four broke friends stuck in a small village attempt to pass the time by getting wasted. The show itself is standard enough setup. Wasted (E4) was a promising new sitcom about a quartet of twentysomething Somerset slackers, one of whom had recurring visions of Bean as his spirit guide. And while he's certainly a highlight, I think that also skewed expectations. Stopping off in three enviable hideaways. Get the latest acting jobs, auditions and crew opportunities for Wasted. Initial impressions seemed centred around the Sean Bean guest spot, with him appearing as an imaginary spirit guide-and dressed in full Ned Stark regalia-to one of the main characters. After last week’s trip around Ireland with Eddie Izzard, Toksvig recruits comedian Judi Love for a jaunt in the bucolic Lake District. In fact, I find myself liking it more and more as it goes, when I was sure I'd hate it. ![]()
